I spent a good portion of my day reading, researching and writing this weekend's message.
We're in our series, "Was it good for you?" and I'll be focusing on what makes it good for men, aptly titled, "Good for Him."
During my preparation I remembered something I was told in my youth. And while it has not saved me from everything, it has saved me from myself in many ways, and it simply this-
You will remember everything.
You will remember everything when it comes to the sexual images or encounters you engage .
I hope young men in particular will take this to heart.
In today’s world every single man will struggle with pornography.
Yes, struggle.
It is out there, it is accessible, and we men must make a conscious effort,
a decision,
to NOT expose ourselves to porn.
In the past people had to seek it out.
Now it will stumble upon us.
We have to be taught how to guard ourselves from it.
We have to teach our children to protect themselves.
I have been able to protect myself, but neither have I lived in a cave.
When I think about the images I've been exposed to just today, it's kind of frightening.
My girls love to dance. I watched a little bit a dance show with my daughter before bed.
I had to turn it off.
It's a shame, really.
I suppose a man can become so exposed to porn that the images start to blend together,
that he stops being able to recall every picture or video or woman who walks by,
I suppose that men can become this desensitized,
but that’s not a good thing.
In fact, to be that exposed and that desensitized is a very dangerous place to be, and I don’t want to be there, and I don’t want any men to be there.
So I will simply put it this way to our young men- you will never forget what you see, more so, what you experience. Be very, very careful.
And come to Connections on Sunday- I'm going to make you blush!
