Some people tend to think that the church only and always talks about money.
That may be true for some churches. I’m not denying that.
Other churches then get afraid to talk about money for not wanting to be misunderstood or misrepresented. Some actually then go so far as to think they are somehow more "spiritual," more faithful, more dependent on God because they never talk about money. We rarely heard about those ministries because those ministries never last.
To the later group I would also add, who ever told you, or where did you ever get the idea, that money isn’t spiritual? Instead of being more pure and more spiritual and more trusting, they are actually just naive and irrelevant.
The LAST thing I want is for Connections to be an irrelevant church.
We can not live in our society and not talk about money.
We are affected by and live in the reality of the existence of money.
Every culture has money.
Every culture develops an economy.
It true across the board.
It may be very simple, it may be based in a very simple exchange of goods and services, but it is still and economy. It’s creating an exchange of value.
So if we don't talk about money, we are not addressing what is arguably the number one pre-occupation, driving concern and priority in most peoples lives.
To not address money is like putting a bag over your head, being in denial, and saying,
"God has nothing to do with the reality of my experience."
In fact, when we read the bible and learn the life and teachings of Jesus, what we begin to discover is that there is perhaps nothing more intimately tied to our spiritual life than money. Preachers will often say that Jesus talked more about money than he talked about heaven and hell.
Can I just say once and for all- NOT TRUE!
I don't know why people keep saying that!
Jesus preached repentance for the the arrival and coming of the kingdom of God.
He preached the good news life in Him for eternity by the grace of God.
Everything he taught came back, in some way, to this core message
But what he did say over and over again is that money is going to be a HUGE road block on our relationship with Him. It is the greatest temptation, the most desirable idol, the most effective tool of the devil to pull us away from God.
Money is a spiritual issue.
And that's why we're still talking about money.
I'll be posting some of my most practical insights for biblical money management the next few days. But PLEASE understand this-
It is a spiritual issue.
But the only way to really understand that is to embrace this as a spiritual discipline.
How you view, manage and use your money has direct bearing on our faith and relationship with God.
Amen. :) Have you seen Rob Bell's "Everything is Spiritual" video? Amazing explanation of why everything in life has spiritual connotations...
