My son is my son in more ways than he can even imagine.
At least that is what my wife tells me all the time.
Honestly, she says it's amazing how alike we are.
Recently he has developed my same worldview.
At least when it comes to skateboarding.
(I love that he's now old enough to go to the skate parks with me.)
When you are a skater, I mean really a skater, it changes the way you see the world.
Every bump is a potential jump.
Every rail a possible grind.
Every incline a ramp.
Every dirt hill something to be paved over and thrashed!
Justin now sits in the back seat of the car and points out all of this to his mom:
"Hey mom, I could totally jump that!"
"Hey mom, that hill would be awesome to ride down!"
It's officially in his blood now.
He can't help it.
It's just how he sees the world.
It's still how I see the world.
Which makes me think of two things:
First, as a father, what are we instilling in the eyes of our children?
It's amazing how much they simply catch from us inadvertently.
This is great news, and this the scary reality of parenting.
Second, as a minister, what is our natural, almost inadvertent way of seeing the world?
Do we love people, or judge them?
Do we think first of ourselves, or first of others?
Is it an obstacle, or an opportunity?
Did God plan for this situation, or did it just happen?
Will you seize the opportunity, or let it slip by?
How do you see the world?
Your world view will simple shine though when you're not looking.
You can't help it.
It's in you blood.
But praise God our blood can mingle with Jesus'.
