A friend shared with me an interesting article.
It talked about 3 kinds of growth in the church, particularly in church planting .
This comes from the book of Acts in the bible:
The first is GEOGRAPHIC growth. The church went out from Jerusalem, to Judea, to Galatia and on to the ends of the earth. Some 2000 years later the church has impacted every continent.
The second is NUMERICAL growth. As the church moved to new places, the numbers grew. More and more were coming to know Jesus as savior. These folks became a part of the church. It was exciting.
The third is SPIRITUAL growth. When people are a part of Jesus and his church, they continue to mature spiritually.
We need all three.
We need to go where we haven't gone before.
We need to bring more people in who don't know Jesus.
We need to mature, or else we stagnant, or worse, we regress. That's just not good.
When you think it through, it's all wrapped up together.
Someone growing spiritually is, by definition, going to help others meet Jesus, or grow in Jesus.
Then those people will in turn help the church spread to new places. That will grow the church numerically. Those people will continue to grow spiritually. And on and on it goes, where it stops, we know- Jesus returns! (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)
What kind of growth gets you most excited?
Are you at a place where you want to plant a church somewhere new?
Are you leading your friends to Jesus like crazy?
Are you excited because of some personal growth that Jesus has been bringing in you?
Or are the all just part of what gets you excited about Jesus?
