I read about an experiment studying the effect "priming."
Folks were asked to make some simple word associations for a study.
They thought that they were being tested on grammar and intelligence.
But they weren't.
The real test was to see what they did after the "priming" test.
The tests were set up by reoccurring word themes.
One test repeatedly used words like "tired, slow, Florida, old."
The other test used words like "fast, excited, energy, vibrant."
Neither used the words in a way that anyone noticed.
But the effect was undeniable.
One group shuffled down the hall, the other sprang to life.
The words had an amazing subconscious effect on the people who were exposed to them.
Priming isn't brainwashing.
But it demonstrates the incredible power of words on a very unconscious, as well as conscious, level.
The bible speaks a lot about the power of words.
It also talks a lot about how we start our day.
In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. Psalm 5:3I believe the bible has an obvious spiritual effect on our lives.
It can also have a very powerful subconscious effect.
What would happen if we "primed" ourselves each day with God's word?
What if the first thing that filled your mind each day was stories of God's love, grace, hope, faith?
The effects would be undeniable.
We'd spring to life.
We'd look for signs of the living God in the world.
We'd be positioned to be used by Him in wonderful ways.
Have you primed your day in God's word and to be used by God?
Try it for a week, and let me know what happens.
