We've been asking how stuff works.
This week the topic was "how the church works."
There's one sure sign to know whether or not the church is working...
The proof that the church is working is given to us in Acts 2:47 where we read,
“And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”
Things work for the church, and the church is only really working, when people are getting saved.
And so I want to call Connections back to this mission.
We will keep moving forward, making an impact, WORKING as a church when we can do this one thing: add to our numbers, daily, those who are being saved.
I don't know if we set the bar too high in our hopes, or too low in the weakness of our faith, but this was and is our guiding prayer: that every week, when we gather for worship, one person would be saved.
Maybe it would happen right in worship. Awesome stuff happens when people gather to worship God.
Maybe it would happen in a small group, when someone has a chance to ask questions, and get answers, from the bible.
Maybe it would happen one-on-one. Someone would tell a neighbour about Jesus, they would come to faith, and they would be saved.
One person, every week. 52 weeks a year. Every year, or until Jesus returns!
Imagine how that church would work and grow:
New people coming to faith, bringing their friends and family. The church keeps growing. More people start giving and serving. New groups start forming. People start getting mentored, and mentoring. Worship services need to be added. Leadership grows and staff are hired so more ministry can be done. People get sent out to start new churches.
That’s the sure sign that a church is working. That God is using the church to bring people to salvation. This week, pray that through the ministry of our church, which is the ministry of the people of our church, that someone will be saved.
And go ahead and pray that you can be the one to lead them to salvation in Jesus Christ.
