There is a saying,
"Some Christians are so heavenly minded that they are no earthly good."
I’ve meet Christians like that. You probably have too. These are the brothers and sisters in faith that drive me crazy. I really feel that they have been deceived by wrongful teachings and miss the point- Freedom from the worries of this world allows us to live fully as the hope of this world.
When we are free from worrying about our lives in this world, we can get on with being the hope of this world.
Your sick, that’s OK. We’ll pray you get better, but if not, you get to go to a much better place.
You lose your job. We’ll pray for you, but it’s OK, you haven’t lost your place in heaven.
You’re hungry in this world, it’s OK, we’ll do our best to feed you, but don’t worry, there’s a banquet waiting on the other side.
You suffer injustice in this world, that’s OK, we’ll fight along side of you for our God calls us to do justice, but no matter what, we’ll leave it in the hands of the God who will bring everything into account on judgment day.
When we really get the hope of living in Jesus, we really start to get living in this world the way Jesus intended. We really start to love our neighbors and live our faith "in the Hood."
We won;t ever really engage our faith in the world until we really embrace the invitation of Jesus to put not just our faith, but our life, in Him. When you put your life in Jesus, you have nothing to lose in this world, and everything to gain in heaven.
And when we, as Christians, really get that our lives are together IN Christ, we'll finally get what it means to be the the church, the body of Christ. We are connected to one another as we are connected in Jesus.
