We are now three weeks into the evening service.
- First week: many folks just came to experience the kick-off.
- Week 2: about 30 folks, but several new faces.
- Week 3: more students and about 12 "Connectors" who couldn't make the morning service.
We know King’s is serious about having us on campus.
We know we are providing a ministry to students.
We know this has to move into the community, reaching new people (not just shuffling our deck) for us to continue.
What, if anything, is stopping us from moving forward with this service?
If the service would grow, we would commit.
But will the service grow if we don’t commit? I don’t think so.
So this is what we need to discern:
Do we feel lead to commit with “creativity, authenticity and excellence?”
Is it a question of money?
Is it a matter of mission?
Volunteer Needs: These are the people we need...
- Service Director (someone to commit to making sure everything comes together)
- Band (1-6 people each week)
- Audio Tech (1 pro and 1 person on training)
- Video Tech (1 pro and 1 in training)
- Service Team: 2 Greeters, 2 Ushers and a cafe "Barista"
5:55pm- Everyone shows up and gets to work:
- Auditorium: unlock black box for access to Snake and VGA.
- Set up for band and media: lower and arrange stage, lower screen, access
- wireless mic and remote for projector
- Set up Welcome Table at entry (plenty of tables on site)
- Signage (outdoor and indoor) put in place
- Catering sets up table at entry to auditorium
7-8pm- Service
8pm- We have to opportunity have a continued worship time. I preach, say a prayer, band comes up, we take an offering, folks are welcome to stay and worship or excuse themselves. BUT so that visitors would not escape unnoticed we would need to put greeters at the back.
Questions:
- Who can commit to being a service director for this service?
- At this point are we asking too much of volunteers, and do we need to consider moving closer to multiple staff?
- I don’t see this as a separate site needing a separate pastor, but leadership is needed through an associate pastor or service director.
- Does the band continue to do double duty? I that just asking too much long term?
- Do we move towards separate morning and evening worship teams?
- Do we find 2 worship leaders for each service, and they rotate, week on/off?
- What about audio and video: do they do double duty too, or do they start to rotate as well?
