My Help...

I usually come out of worship feeling pumped and prepared for the week.
I love seeing the church gathered, praising God, praying to God, learning God's word.
It's awesome.

Today I feel exhausted.
Like I stood naked in front of the world, and told them how I was really feeling.
Which, I guess, is just what I did.

God is good.
Our faith is strong.
We will come through this trial.
But it's no fun right now (understatement).

The refining fire of a trial is hard.
Impurities burn away.
The metal of our faith is tempered.
We are melted and remade into to the shape of God's plan.

We would be faithless to walk away from the trial.
Foolish to not turn to God in the midst of the trial.
And fearful if we do not press on after the trial.

And so I pray God takes us through.
Not, "God, save us from the trial."
But "God, save us through the trial."
Save us, and work out our salvation through the trial.

But today, I need sabbath.
I need rest in God.

Psalm 121

My Help Comes from the LORD
A Song of(A) Ascents.
 1I(B) lift up my eyes to(C) the hills.
   From where does my help come?
2(D) My help comes from the LORD,
   who(E) made heaven and earth. 3He will not(F) let your foot be moved;
   he who(G) keeps you will not slumber.
4Behold, he who keeps Israel
   will neither slumber nor sleep.
 5The LORD is your keeper;
   the LORD is your(H) shade on your(I) right hand.
6(J) The sun shall not(K) strike you by day,
   nor the moon by night.
 7The LORD will(L) keep you from all evil;
   he will keep your life.
8The LORD will keep
   your(M) going out and your coming in
   from this time forth and forevermore.

  1. Oh Robin, that has been my favorite psalm. Last year that was our scripture memorization.
