"Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and they shall call his name Immanuel"
(which means, God with us).
and they shall call his name Immanuel"
(which means, God with us).
~ Matthew 1:23
Jesus is God Immanuel, God with us...- He is with us in the flesh, sharing our humanity. We remember this miracle on Christmas. Fully God, fully man; divinity PLUS our humanity.
- He is with us and this is the foundation of our faith. He stood with us, and stood in for us, taking our sin, and our death; paying our price and rising to new life.
- He is with us in our humanity, as he will be with us finally and forever in his second coming, his final advent. This is our hope and comfort in life and death.
- He is with us right now by the power of His Holy Spirit, the deposit guaranteeing our adoption as the children of God. He is with all who call upon the name of Jesus and who put their faith in Him.
- He is with us, and that He is with us is somehow the greatest thing that could ever happen to us, and somehow one of the most unsettling truths we can know. He is comfort in our affliction, and affliction to our comfort.
