So what do you do the day after Christmas?
Join the mad rush to the Boxing Day sales? (If so, you really are crazy!)
Clean up the wrapping paper, plates and dishes?
Say good-bye to family and friends who visited?
Wallow in a bit of self pity after the all the Christmas gluttony?
It is the day after, and life must go on. What did the first celebrants of the birth of Jesus do the day after? The bible tells us,
Luke 2:16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.
They spread the word concerning Jesus, and all who heard were amazed!
We tend to think that Christmas is the best time to invite folks to church and tell them about Jesus.
But frankly, it's a busy, crazy hectic time of year. Then after Christmas (and New Years) what do we have to look forward to? It's back to work and the long, cold days of winter.
Maybe the best time of year to tell the world about our faith in Jesus, and maybe the time when folks are most eager for some good news, is AFTER Christmas.
So maybe your neighbors didn't come to church this past month- they were very busy.
Maybe they didn't make it to the Christmas Eve service- they were out of town.
But now they are back in town.
Now life settles down.
Now they are ready to be amazed.
Will you spread the great news, invite them to your home, invite them to your home group, bring them to worship on a Sunday morning?
