"Connecting with God. Connecting with People. Connecting with the World."
When we started Connections we came up with a mission statement so simple anyone could remember it.
We wanted it evoke questions, and stir up conversation...
~ What does it mean to connect with God, and how does that happen?
~ Connecting with people, is that like a Christian dating service?
~ The world?! Are you talking about a revolution?!
Hopefully these kinds of questions would lead to a conversation about our vision:
What does it actually look like to live out this mission?
It means creating a worship service that points toward Jesus Christ, the one who connects us with the Father.
It means creating groups where people can read the bible, pray and talk about living out our growing faith.
It means impacting our world by mobilizing volunteers to use their unique gifts and resources.
But here's a more audacious way to frame our mission with three different "C" words...
What are we about at Connections?
Personal Conversion
Community Formation
Cultural Renewal
Conversion: we believe that people need to have a life-changing encounter with Jesus. We can't know life until we know Jesus!
Community: people in Jesus must band together to love, care and support one-other. We can't do life with Jesus alone!
Cultural: the church becomes the catalyst for change in the structures of our world. We can't help ourselves- we have to try and make a difference!
I encourage you to kick this mission around in your mind and in your conversations:
Have I had personally considered Jesus, and committed my life to Him? Authentic Christianity starts with my authentic relationship with Jesus.
Have I committed to deepening relationships in the church? Jesus said that the world will know our faith by the way we love one another.
Do I have a vision for global change? As long as one child goes hungry, one family goes homeless, one person calls out for love, we still have work to do as the church.
